Week 57

Collapsing on the sofa after tucking our little wiggler in, we talk about the painting we want to begin tonight. Reading my look, he leans over to tuck a strand of my hair behind my ear and says, "It's not that you've lost anything you learned over last year- it's now inside you. You will begin to selectively cast off certain things based on your artistic preferences, this is a good thing! Each time we begin a new series, you will have that same wonder. Each time at the end of the year you won't be able to imagine something greater.” I know what he says to be true.

Then, we begin to paint, colors flying and eyes gleaming. Laert looks over mid-stroke to say, "If you get only 20% of what you got last year in the way of learning or pieces you love or experiences, would it be worth it to you?" I know without a shadow of doubt the answer is a resounding yes.

Our vantage point under the fishing dock looking into the beginning of the water forest, is secluded, serene. It's like peeping through a keyhole into a mystical paradise. The quiet water laps the kayak as the wind whispers through the Spanish moss in the tree branches. It's as if the cove knows how wonderfully magical it is. The cypress trees were made similar in technique to The Water Forest, and came easily. The reflections danced freely off our brushes bringing the water shimmering to life. We were painting a hallowed ground, and our hands and minds moved with a reverence in accord.
