Week 54

Words are so powerful to me - whispers of wonder and love give way to enthusiastic gestures and marvelous creation. Hints of perfectionism and insecurities from others allow a dark presence to form, clouding my sight and almost palpably keeping me from creation.

It is not to say that I am not able to hear both the good and the bad, however, there are a few voices in our lives that are louder than others, that touch that childlike place within. The trick is to feel it as it comes but to release it just as readily. Holding on breeds ambivalence, a trap where you are not able to move, to express. That is the truest darkness for an artist.

Here starting our new series, I am indeed insecure about our subject matter and frustrated with my skills. But having one year of this type of art under my belt, now I know what it takes to move on unfettered by those words- to plow forward and let the art take me. I'm so grateful to have a partner. He doesn't hear my demons, and our struggles are usually at different times, allowing us the luxury to support and drive one another.

As I look at the cool water reflecting a fallen limb, bright leaves gently floating, I think about what is reflected by my life, my words to others, what I create in them. Good or bad, it is always reflected. Insecurity and fear incites the same in those around us. Bright spots of goodness, kindness and empowerment can be likewise radiantly reflected in all those we meet.
