Week 37

When your belly is full of good food and heart full of laughter from good friends, you transition from one thing to another with your step a little lighter. Rolling into the studio, we were both eager to resume with our next painting.

We seem to be inspired on vertically aligned pieces, this and the next (spoiler alert!) are no different. The thin canvas made for an elegant, mysterious feel to this piece- like you got lost in Venice with your espresso and panini; turned the corner to see the quiet everyday of this blue canal. The soft waves float the craft gently, waiting for someone to peer over their balcony for the afternoon.

Pulling out paints, I've never felt so confident in seeing the colors and knowing how to achieve them. It is a subtle realization after I'm knuckles deep in paint tubes, busy with the work. I smile to myself and feel the gladness of "finally, I can feel this feeling"! Even if it doesn't last - I know each time it happens I'm closer for that to be the norm.

This painting is similar in subject to our week 7, but different in technique. It's interesting how the doubts I had then with that piece, feel so very far away. They never even entered my mind. As the seasons change you may realize that it was always changing- it's just that moment when you take the time to recognize it's happening and to see it as a whole, do you call it something worth noting.
